The theme for this exhibition concentrated on the literary out put
of the regions many talented authors and works inspired by regional
legends, folklore and geography. The only exception to this was
Harry Potter, which is based on just about every conceivable bit
of folklore including many things found here in the North West.
The books featured in the exhibition included: Lord or the Rings
and The Hobbit (inspired by Lancashire and Staffordshire). Alice
In Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass (Daresbury). The Wizard
of Alderley (Traditional), King Arthur & the Knights of the
Round Table (all areas especially North Wales), The Weird Stone
of Brisingamen (Alderley Edge), Lindow Man (Wilmslow), Celtic Warrington
and Other Mysteries (Mersey Valley), The Keys to Avalon (Cheshire
and North Wales), Harry Potter (Various Traditions), The Green Man
(traditional), Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (Mersey Valley and
Staffordshire), Celtic Legends (North Wales).
This theme enabled the many costumes and props used in re-enactment
to be displayed, some of the Lord of the Rings and others from Harry
Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone. The largest private
collection of Alice In Wonderland books in the region appeared in
the big cabinet, along with a special ‘King Arthurian’
Celtic Well, guarded by a Knight in full armour and viewed from
Sir Lancelot’s jousting tent.
We held several costumed theme days at the centre including a very
popular Lord of the Rings day, Harry Potter Characters day a Celtic
Crafts day and supplied characters for the Knutsford Lions Medieval
Street Market. The exhibition proved so popular that it was extended
to an unprecedented 16 weeks and was estimated to have been viewed
by over 4000 people.
